War Of 1812 Recruitment Document From January 31, 1813 ... It Is 200 Years Old Today!

It is 2013 and I am continuing the observance of the Bicentennial of the War Of 1812. On January 31, 1813, two hundred years ago, an Ensign of the 16th Regiment Infantry of the United States Army named Thomas J. Martin worked on and completed the document featured in this video. It pertains to recruitment. I acquired this document four months ago and I am elated to show it to you right now ... on its 200th Birthday!

A Malaysian 50 Sen Coin Made Its Way To The USA And Became Change

It is January 30, 2013. I just came back from the store. While I was in line I noticed the cashier was looking at a coin. I asked her if it was a rare coin. She said it was a 50 cent piece from Malaysia. I asked if I could have it as change and she said "Sure". It is a 50 Sen piece from the year 2003 - Bank Negara Malaysia. A Malaysian coin made its way to the USA and I took advantage of the opportunity.

The coin is kinda cool ... now if the country only got rid of its stupid and savage islamic apostasy law.

The Number Of Survivors From The 1800s Is Back To Fifteen Due To The Recent Verification Of 113-Year-Old Louisiana Hines

This is interesting. The recent passing of Koto Okubo (as reported on January 13 of this year: http://michaeltheresearcher.blogspot.com/2013/01/koto-okubo-worlds-oldest-woman-passed.html) caused the number of Surviving People born in the 1800s to drop to 14. Earlier today I looked at the chart and the number is back up to 15. I looked at my data and compared it to the most recent chart and it looks like another Survivor from the 1800s has been verified. Her name is Louisiana Hines and she was born on April 13, 1899. Her application date was July 13, 2010 and she was accepted on January 22, 2013. We are now back to 15 Survivors from the 1800s! Louisiana Hines was either the daughter of slaves or the grand-daughter of slaves. I found conflicting reports. She is now the Sixth Oldest Person on Earth and the Second Oldest American.

The names of the current Survivors from the 1800s and other Supercentenarians have been compiled by the Gerontology Research Group. All of the pertinent information can be seen at their website: http://grg.org/Adams/E.HTM

A very incredible interview with Louisiana Hines from the year 2000 can be found here - http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/100years.html. Out of all of the people who were interviewed on the webpage, Louisiana is the only person currently living. According to the interview segment, Louisiana was a Rosie The Riveter in World War II! She could very well be the oldest of all Rosie The Riveters in America. It would be wonderful to hear of her experiences in the 1940s. Hopefully someone can make this happen very, very soon.

The Moon, The Star Aldebaran (As Part Of The Constellation Taurus) And The Planet Jupiter In The Night Sky On January 22, 2013

It has been eleven months since I posted a celestial-based blog entry. The Moon, the Star Aldebaran (as part of the Constellation Taurus) and the Planet Jupiter were in plain view on January 22, 2013. I tried to record a video and unfortunately, Aldebaran was not able to be captured. It was also FREEZING outside! I did not stay outside for long at all ... this could very well have been my fastest night sky photoshoot ever! The photo was taken at 8:50 PM.

Koto Okubo, The World's Oldest Woman, Passed Away Yesterday At The Age Of 115

I have some more sad news to report to you this month. Another Supercentenarian who was born in the 1800s has departed the Earth. Her name is Koto Okubo and she is the second person from the 1890s to have passed on this month. Not much is known about Koto. The following link features some information about her: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nn20130113a4.html

R.I.P. to Koto Okubo who lived from December 24, 1897 to January 12, 2013 ... 115 years total.

There are now only fourteen individuals who were born in the 1800s left on the planet.

Richard Milhous Nixon Centennial 1913 - 2013

January 9, 2013 ... the 100th Birth Anniversary of Richard Milhous Nixon. On this day in 1913, Richard Nixon was born. In honor of Richard Nixon's Centennial, I decided to dig into the archives and pull out a few items such as autographed books, signed letters, press photographs, political campaign buttons, a record and a hilarious and incredibly bizarre Richard Nixon shower head ... no doubt one of the most bizarre pieces of Presidential Memorabilia ever made!! I also spun the record for those who want to hear his voice.

Richard Nixon ... Congressman, Senator, Vice President, President and World War II Veteran.

There Are Only 15 People From The 1800s Left In The World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbv5vTqe3Ig

It is January 7, 2013. This is my video tribute to the Final 15 People who were born in the 1800s. In April of 2012, I recorded a video tribute to the Final 25 Survivors from the 1800s and in November 2012, I recorded a video tribute in honor of the Final 20 Survivors from the 1800s. It has been a mere two months and we lost five People during that time. All of them were from the United States Of America and their names are Beryl Kapaun, Nettie Whittington, Besse Cooper, Dina Manfredini and Mamie Rearden. Out of the five, Dina Manfredini was not born in America - she was born in Italy and later in life, became a U.S. citizen.

I have two more interesting and fascinating facts to present. The previous Top 5 Oldest People In The World were all Non-Whites and the current Top 4 Oldest People In The World are all from the nation of Japan. Their names are Jiroemon Kimura, Koto Okubo, Misawo Okawa and Hatsue Ono. The only people left from the years 1897 and 1898 are from Japan.

In this video I also discuss the reason why I believe the nineteenth century is comprised of the years 1800 to 1899 rather than 1801 to 1900. I view time as a stop watch.

The names of the Final 15 Survivors can be seen at this link: http://grg.org/Adams/E.HTM

The Two Oldest Americans, Dina Manfredini And Mamie Reardon, Passed Away Within Sixteen Days Of Each Other

My Friends: I have very sad news for you. Within sixteen days, we lost two Super-Centenarians: Dina Manfredini, who was born in the year 1897, and Mamie Reardon, who was born in the year 1898.

115-year-old Dina Manfredini, held the title of The Oldest Person In The World when she passed away on December 17, 2012. She was the Planet's Oldest Resident for two weeks and was one of only three people alive who were born in the year 1897. Dina also holds the distinction of being the Oldest Italian-Born Person Ever. During World War II, she worked on an assembly line filling shells with gunpowder in Ankeny, Iowa and shoveled snow at 106 years of age (Source: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20040227/NEWS03/121204032/Borsellino-She-lives-life-own-terms-106?nclick_check=1).

Mamie Rearden, The Oldest Woman In America, passed away at the age of 114 on January 2, 2013. Her daughters made the announcement today (Source: http://news.yahoo.com/sc-woman-oldest-living-us-citizen-dies-114-192041113.html ... Yahoo news links are known to expire so we will see how long this article lasts on the world wide web). Some personal information: Mamie began a career as a teacher in 1918, got married in 1919, had eleven children and was widowed in 1979. She was the Fourth Oldest Living Person In The World and the Oldest Living Black Person on the Planet.

R.I.P. to both of these ladies.

This means that there are only FIFTEEN People on Earth who were born in the 1800s. Again, only FIFTEEN People remain from that century!

A Visit To Princeton Battlefield On January 3, 2013

Today I visited Princeton Battlefield in Princeton, New Jersey. On this day, January 3, in the year 1777, a very important Revolutionary War Battle took place at this location.

Here is a rare occasion where I record a video without my ugly face in it.

Historic Events For 2013

It is a New Year and that means a brand new list of historic outings for you. 2013 will see the continuation of the Bicentennial of the War Of 1812 and the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War. There are plenty of events listed focusing on other Conflicts as well including the Tricentennial of the passing of Major Thomas Leonard, a man who served in the King Philip's War from 1675 to 1676. There will also be a Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the end of the French And Indian War/Seven Years War.

Many, many incredible events are scheduled from January to December and as the year proceeds, I will update the list as the information comes in!

Note: I am holding a number of these events myself - this is why the url listed for these specific events leads back to this blog. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Update (April 2, 2013): I am updating the list tonight, and am seeing some very awful and unfortunate schedule conflicts. This is insane. I can attend a couple of events on the same day though ... a couple hours at one and a couple hours at another. I can also attend three in one day. Other events though ... I can only go to one.

Happy New Year 2013 And The 150th Anniversary Of The Emancipation Proclamation

Happy New Year 2013!!!!

Here is my celebration photo:

Today, January 1, 2013, is the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. As you will note from the Proclamation itself, slaves were freed ONLY in the Southern Confederate States. Since the Confederate States Of America was a sovereign nation in and of itself in 1863, I would go as far as to deem the Proclamation pointless because I would think the Confederates would not be concerned with any decree issued by Abraham Lincoln. If "pointless" is too unpleasant of a word for some, certainly the Proclamation is ironic given that slaves were still held in bondage in the North.
