Neshaminy State Park Civil War Reenactment And Encampment Held On April 29, 2012

Once again, Neshaminy State Park hosted another fine Civil War Reenactment and Encampment. This was specifically a Reenactment of the First Battle Of Winchester in Virginia. The actual Battle took place on May 25, 1862.

Here is a video of the Battle:

As I walked to another area of the field, I noticed this snake going crazy (perhaps it was due to the noise or the large crowd) ...

There Only 25 People From The 1800s Left In The World

Earlier in the week I discovered that there are only 25 living and verified survivors from the nineteenth century. This blog entry is my tribute to those super-centenarians who have lived in three different centuries. Very incredible - it is 2012 and we STILL have people from the 1800s on this planet.

On April 18 of this year, 113-year-old Cora Hansen passed away and her passing decreased the number of those in this very exclusive club to 25. Some of you may have heard the recent news of the Japanese man named Jiroemon Kimura who turned 115. We have two other people who are 115 as well: Dina Manfredini and Besse Cooper. Besse is the last survivor from the year 1896. I wish all 25 well. Here's to many more Birthdays!

Cora Hansen, Canada's Oldest Person And The Nation's Last Surviving Citizen Born In The 1800s, Has Passed Away At Age 113

Cora Hansen, Canada's last surviving citizen born in the nineteenth century, has passed on at 113 years of age. Cora was born in the United States Of America on March 25, 1899 and lived until April 18, 2012. She moved to Canada literally 100 years ago in 1912!!

According to this article, http://m.ctv.ca/topstories/20120418/eldest-canadian-cora-hansen-dies-at-.html, Cora did not move into a care center until she was nearly a centenarian. The link also has a nice photograph from her 113th Birthday. Farewell to a woman who lived in three different centuries! RIP.

Historic Events For 2012

I am extremely late issuing this list. I always try to get this out in early January. In any case, here is my Historic Events List for 2012 ... finally. 2012 marks the 200th Anniversary of the War Of 1812 and this year also continues the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. There will be a heavy emphasis on those two themes. There are a number of other extraordinary events being offered as well.

Note: I am holding a number of these events myself - this is why the url listed for these specific events leads back to this blog. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Lady Of Villers-Carbonnel Clay Statue Replica

This blog entry features photographs of a Statue I made. It is based on the Lady Of Villers-Carbonnel. The Lady Of Villers-Carbonnel Statue is around 6,000 years old, and was discovered in December of 2011. It may be a Fertility Object or an Earth Mother or a Goddess. Immediately upon reading the article describing the discovery (last December), I wanted to make a replica of the Statue. I began the project in February and completed it in March.

Photographs of the original Lady Statue, along with the story of its discovery, can be found at this link:

Here is the slab of clay I started with:

This trio-collage of the Statue I made can be compared to the photograph that accompanied the article I posted above (I tried to make it look as similar as possible):

Here is a video showing the entire process from a slab of clay to the completed Statue:
